Today our friend Christina celebrates her fiftieth birthday, and we are so eager to present this Cocktail Detour Original recipe to her. We used rum and Aperol as the booze base, and added pineapple juice, simple syrup and fresh lime juice to balance everything. The pineapple juice creates a nice foam, as well as contributing with an exotic sweetness. We think it all works out really well and that it is the perfect birthday drink, with some tiki vibes. Happy Birthday Christina, we are c

Almost Famous

Almost Famous

Another nice recipe for a modern tiki drink. Almost Famous is a perfect riff of a Paper Plane, and we love the fantastic colour it gets thanks to the Aperol. We used Rum Fire in this one, it's such a characteristic and tasty rum that works fantastic in this type of drinks. Almost Famous Recipe by Laura Bishop Ingredients: 1 oz overproof Jamaican rum 1 oz yellow Chartreuse 1 oz Aperol 1 oz fresh lime juice Mixing: Shake all ingredients with fresh ice and fine strain into a coupe. While tiki mugs are a lot of fun, and we do have several at home, it is also fun to see tiki drinks served in regular coupes. The Parasol is such a great example. Being super yellow, containing a hefty amount of rum, tasting of banana and pineapple and being garnished with nutmeg this drink screams tiki even inside a coupe. Being sort of a a banana daiquiri, we could see this cocktail being a crowdpleaser. Evoking those tropical feelings, it does exactly what a good tiki drink should do. Pa

Mary Pickford

Mary Pickford

When we posted a story with a bottle of ginger rum [https://www.spytailrum.com/] , George over at @geosklias [https://www.instagram.com/geosklias/] was fast to suggest a cocktail to use it in; a Mary Pickford. And that's what we did, pairing the spicy ginger rum with sweet pineapple juice and maraschino liqueur. It is fun to use new products in classic recipes. It's a way of discovering them again, in a new light. The ginger rum elevated this Mary Pickford to a super interesting level, addin

Flor de Caña [http://flordecana.com/] 12 years rum is Fair Trade certified, which makes this phenomenal rum even extra enjoyable. Also we absolutely love its toffee and vanilla notes, making it perfect to mix with other dessert associated ingredients. In this original cocktail, we mixed the Flor de Caña rum with banana and walnut liqueurs, tying it all together with dry fino sherry to balance the sweetness. The result is certainly a coupe full of loveliness, defined by the rum but with rat

Callaloo Cooler

Callaloo Cooler

In this wonderful drink we're using Spytail [https://www.spytailrum.com/] rum, which is a new brand to us. It's based on aged rum from Guyana and Trinidad which is then aged a further three to six months in France, in the Cognac area, in barrels that used to hold - Cognac. Yummy! The result is a super smooth, mellow and literally round rum that we immediately thought would work well as the base of tiki drinks. What's cool with this rum is how well it cuts through all those competing flavors

Zacapa Nuet

Zacapa Nuet

Some months ago we attended a solo dining experience called Nuet. You had dinner at a table set for one, with the idea to immerse yourself fully into the food without any conversation at all. They even provided earphones with curated music to go with each dish. A truly unique experience. For us cocktail nerds, the cocktail pairing with each dish was probably the highlight of the evening. Michael Hajiyianni [https://www.instagram.com/michael_haj1/] was present throughout the whole experience a

We’re coming back to our bottle of Flor de Caña [http://flordecana.com/] rum, made in Nicaragua close to an active volcano. So a pretty awesome rum, that also happens to be Fair Trade certified and sustainably sourced. With that amazing volcano so close to the production we were tempted to go tiki and serve a drink in our volcano mug. But, after sipping the rum neat we re-thinked and decided to take this recipe in a slightly more elegant and less diluted direction. Using no fruit juices at all
