The Curtain Club

bar Sep 4, 2022

Berlin, Germany

This is the signature bar of the Ritz Carlton Hotel, so the setting is luxurious and cocktails are on the more expensive side. Bar seats are nice and comfy and the bartenders welcoming and friendly. Before having ordered anything at all we were served complimentary olives and nuts, which were later refilled. Oddly enough no water was served though.

The cocktail list contained some 10 house cocktails and the staff politely told us they could of course also do all the classic cocktails (which the impressive bottle battery proved). We decided to go with the house cocktails and started with a Niklz (mezcal, maraschino, chocolate, incense) which was much to our liking. And as we like mezcal we also tried the Pear Panther (mezcal, pear, elderflower, thyme) and for us this was another perfect fit. Before we had to leave for a dinner reservation we wanted to try the Tipsy Sunset (aperol, gin, lime, orange, agave) and ordered one to share, but the bartender very kindly turned it into two miniature serves. Such a generous gesture.

The setting of the bar is beautiful, and as mentioned luxurious. We were a bit surprised to find the remains of a price tag under one of the cocktail glasses though, and it felt odd that no water was offered. So some minor misses, but overall a solid hotel bar with an intriguing cocktail list.
