Paris is Burning

Paris is Burning

Let us mix a Paris is Burning cocktail, created by the talented Leo Robitschek from Hotel Nomad in NYC. In the little black cocktail book from Nomad several of Leo's creations are featured, but today the Paris is Burning seems most tempting to make as it captures everything we appreciate from a true craft cocktail. First of all, we think that pale yellow colour is so beautiful. It immediately makes the cocktail look delicious without having tasted it. But as soon as you do taste it you are trea

Spicy Santa

Spicy Santa

We're approaching Christmas quickly, and today we are making our first hot cocktail of the year. This is the Spicy Santa, a Cocktail Detour original, inspired by several other hot chocolate cocktails out there. We wanted to give the cocktail some heat, both regarding temperature and spice level. So we decided to pair the hot chocolate with Ancho Reys, a delicious chili liqueur. It is a quite spicy product and you don't wanna use too much of it because of this. So to take up the alcohol level a

Tonic Margarita

Tonic Margarita

Our love for mezcal continues to grow, and in this Tonic Margarita we are only mixing it with lime juice, tonic syrup and simple syrup. There is a noticeable difference between tequila and mezcal. The latter one has more of a smoky profile, not completely unlike a smoky whisky. It's a really good cocktail ingredient which this particular drink proves. We photographed the cocktail outside while it was raining. We thought the wet surface on the balcony table looked good and wanted to make use of

Anotha' One

Anotha' One

So a few weeks ago we saw something very tempting in Tyler James's beautiful Instagram feed. It was a mezcal cocktail paired with Maraschino liqueur, and that combination certainly intrigued us. Judging by the many positive comments Tyler got on his post, several others also seemed to like his creation. It was an instant bookmark, and here is the outcome of when we made it at home. The cocktail is called Anotha' One and apart from the ingredients already mentioned it also has Cynar, lemon juice

Red Viper

Red Viper

We've been reading the book “Tequila & Mezcal” (only in Swedish) by Josephine Sondlo and Madeleine Solo Rapp from cover to cover the last weeks. And there are so many great recipes in this book it was almost difficult to decide what to start with! However, the cocktail on the book's cover is a Red Viper, and this is the one we eventually decided to make first of all: Now our cocktail turned out a little less red compared to the cover version. Probably because we used Carpano Antica Formula swe

Domo Arigato

Domo Arigato

Unusual cocktail ingredients is always fun. In the Domo Arigato by Ran Duan there is sesame oil . . . and it's paired with mezcal! Check out this awesome recipe: 2 oz mezcal 0,75 oz lime juice 0,5 oz simple syrup 1 bar spoon sesame oil 3 oz ginger beer Shake everything but the ginger beer with ice, double strain and pour into glasses pre-filled with the ginger beer. Now a bar spoon of sesame oil can be a tiny amount or a large amount depending on the size of your bar spoon. As we did two cockt

Naked & Famous

Naked & Famous

Naked & Famous, by Joaquin Simó is a very interesting cocktail. It's one part Last Word and one part Paper Plane (according to Death & Co's book in which we found the recipe). Thanks to the Aperol this cocktail gets a very appealing orange/pink color. The taste however is more dominated by the smoky mezcal, a spirit that we love, so this is definitely our type of cocktail. Another thing we like about the Naked & Famous is the fact that it's an equal part recipe. If you make this delicious drin
